from gauteng via lephalale (ellisras) to groblersbrug border. this is a relatively easy border crossing which usually takes less than an hour. in botswana, the border is known as martin’s drift. just after you cross the border you will find kwanokeng with its beautiful views over the limpopo river on your left. stay here for one night and relax in the meru tents. these tents are en-suite. meals can be arranged alternatively light a fire and have a tjoppie. day 2: drive to khama rhino sanctuary near serowe. you will drive via palapaye and then to serowe. about 30km from serowe on route to orapa you will find this beautiful game reserve. this is certainly a destination on its own. enjoy the natural environment and the game, which includes both black and white rhino. accommodation can be in comfortable self-catering chalets or set up camp for the evening. day 3 and 4: makgadikgadi pans. your next stop is wilderness safari in the makgadikgadi pans. much smaller than in east africa, but no less spectacular, is the wildebeest migration in the makgadikgadi pans during the rainy season. you will most likely experience this phenomenon in august. this gives you the best chance to also see lions and cheetahs. day 5: island safari lodge, maun. the lodge is on the southern tip of the okavango delta. from here you can do a mokoro trip into the delta and don’t miss a flight over the okavango delta. you are guaranteed to see a lot of game. day 6,7 and 8: maun to khwai river. people differ about which camp is the best in the moremi game reserve. both xaxanaka and third bridge are popular, but our choice is without any doubt khwai or north gate and you should spend at least 2 night’s here. game viewing in this area is certainly the best and it is much easier to reach from both maun and savute. from khwai you can do day trips to the other campsites. boat trips into the okavango delta are available at xaxanaka, which is about 40km from khwai. the best game viewing is along the khwai river. day 9 and 10: moremi to savute. leave early and enjoy the excellent game viewing along the khwai river on route to savute. once you have left the river you will cross the savute ridge, an area with very deep sand. as soon as you enter the chobe game reserve the roads get slightly better. camp for two nights in savute and enjoy game drives in the well-known savute marsh. you are guaranteed to see large numbers of game on the plains. day 11 and 12: savute to kasane. the chobe game reserve is huge and you will certainly want a stay of two nights at kasane. the campsites are crowded during peak periods. we therefore include accommodation at chobe safari lodge. this is a luxury lodge and promises to be one of the highlights of your tour. the lodge will provide game drives and game cruises. although the accommodation is more expensive you will certainly not pay more in total. accommodation here costs roughly 80% less than the lodges in the savute and moremi. day 12 and 13: chobe to victoria falls. victoria falls remain one of the most beautiful destinations in africa. do not consider staying in zambia. the falls are on the zimbabwean side and this is where all the action takes place. stay in self-catering accommodation at the victoria falls explorers village. optional extras will be an elephant back safari or walk with lions or a cruise down the zambezi river. for those who prefer an adrenaline rush white water rafting or bungee jumping might be the answer. the restaurant at the village is affordable and you can enjoy your meals there or at any of the other restaurants in town. the victoria falls and all activities are within walking distance from your accommodation, but you can also choose to use a taxi. brave enough to take on the wild rapids of the zambezi river or swim to the edge of the falls at devils pool. here you will have to check back to reality and take a return flight from kasane to johannesburg, or if you extended your trip. fly from the victoria falls airport to o.r. tambo international airport. want to see more of botswana and want to extend your trip….here we go: in this section we shall introduce those hotels and lodges which
